The Eddie Van Halen seen early in this video, talking about how Sam was such a great guy. Just wasn't the same Ed that treated Michael so badly. Eddie was dying for years he was so heavily addicted to drugs. How he lived as long as he did is honestly a miracle. There is video after video year after year of Eddie being paper thin and being so destroyed by drugs. If you have an interest watch Van Halen with Gary cherone on the Howard Stern show. It's obvious that Alex was complicit in Eddie's drug use. And if you look at Eddie in that studio, I don't believe that he was doing cocaine then he was using meth. He could not sit still and was tweaking like you wouldn't believe. It's so unbelievably sad, Alex knew what was going on, Eddie was using so heavily and became so insecure. There was even a massive blowout with his son on stage when Eddie could not play. The drug abuse and drug addiction was so bad and Eddie could not get clean. Making Michael Anthony an employee of the band was unfathomable and if truth be told he would have taken any deal just to stay a part of it. Eddie lost his mind his soul and his way and Alex watched it all. Just look at Eddie's mouth it's called meth mouth and is plain to see.

It is absolutely hilarious whoever made this video thinks Sammy Haggar replaced DLR. DLR, never got replaced. Van Halen was never as good as they were with Dave ever again. Even in the end when Dave came back to the band. DLR could never be replaced. 1 or 2 tried, just like he predicted.

We all remember our 1980s party hearty never miss a concert days of our no steering wheel required youth . One thing I remember was on the days that we were going to see a band at the arena that evening , there was always a little buzz in the air. There was a little buzz in the air because the Scorpions were in town , a buzz because Judas Priest was in town , or Motley Crue or Ozzy , or a number of other bands . But when Van Halen visited your town , it was a completely different vibe . It was a vibe that no other band had. Van Halen came to town with that invisible Tsunami that just hung around the day of the show and even a couple of days after. Like their image, like their reputation , like their music, like Alex Van Halen’s Drum set , it was off the charts different from their peers. ! I seen them 12 times and they never disappointed me. After seeing them my first time , I had to the rafters expectations every time and they never left me un satisfied. The 3rd time I seen them , Dave was a bit lack luster But I forgave him for 2. Reasons 1). I live in Fresno , in the middle of California. The 3rd time I seen em , the band had played Reno, NV, 3 show’s in Oakland , 2 shows at the Cow Palace San Francisco and 3 shows in Sacramento in the previous 10 days in a row before hitting Fresno. I b was up close and Dave did not look good . He was white as a sheet and he lacked the all over the stage acrobatics that he normally had . He looked like somebody who partied their fuckin ass off for 10 straight days, and then had dry heaves all day on the 11th day before taking the stage . It was a bit of a let down but that’s one of the reasons we love DLR. His ‘everybody hoist your glass again attitude ! So I couldn’t hold that against him ! Yeah Dave go ahead and party like hell but not before my hometown show ! Ha ha . I will give Dave credit for one thing. He was there , he did the whole show and finished fairly strong . That’s what I give him credit for that . He had a look that most lead men would have cancelled the show over so he soldiered on Quite the Warrior!

I saw the Toronto show in July 2004 and it was absolutely fabulous. Everything appeared fine. Four months later in Hamilton, Ontario the band was a complete mess. I was shocked at the decline. Something was seriously wrong. Thank God Eddie cleaned himself up. For fans be sure to view his Smithsonian interview. You see the real Eddie VH and the person we want to remember. RIP

I heard the 1st VH album in early 79' while I was in 7th grade, I was also turned on to Montrose first album from 73' by my older cousin the same year, she was 5 years older and had a great collection to cut my rock teeth on and when I heard Eruption for the first time I was floored and I'm a fan for life. I've seen VH 8 times in a row starting in 80'($10.50) four times with DLR and 4 with Sammy, all great fuckin shows, but I've seen Sammy on stage more times than DLR starting with my first show ever in Oct of 79'($8.50) Pat Travers and the Scorpions, and the Scorps song The Zoo was all over K-SHE and KWK, they opened for Sammy and it was, only Sammy's tunes, simulcast on the radio like a number of Sammy's solo shows and all shows were in St.Louis, Sammy's home away from home. We snuck down to the 14th row where 2 girls from school had tickets on the aisle of section C so it was practically center stage, we brought the concert incense, 4 Thai sticks, LOL, and the girls brought one of those fake leather flasks with a fifth of Southern Comfort in it. It was a great first concert to hone those rock teeth on. The 79' show, audio only, is on RUclips, along with a number of Sammy's early solo shows in St.Louis and the 83' show that has the video here on YT was broadcast live over MTV is also on YT, I missed that show but some friends that I went to JrHS and HS with are in front rows and are on the video. Hard to believe it's been so many yrs ago, but I've seen a lot of great shows. The old arena in St. Louis held some of the greatest concerts ever, and a few hockey games that I also would attend, kinda sad when they dropped it to the ground. The new arena doesn't sound the same, nor does it make your guts rumble, in a good way, like the ol' barn did.
